OHANA

Ohana is a group of harmonic singers that create unique harmonies, ranging from Gregorian and primitive chants, to improvisational and traditional vocal music. We blend TUVA overtone singing with improvisation and songs contributed by group members. Our songs range from Gregorian and Indian chants, to original contemporary music. That's our group and fearless leader, Arjuna, pictured on the right!

TUVA is a province in the eastern (central Asian) region of Russia, near Mongolia. TUVA singing produces a beautiful, soulful horn quality, and healing overtones. Overtones are ringing harmonic sounds, similar to striking a bowl, or listening to musical feedback.Ohana integrates this ancient approach with modern songs and improvisation, giving you a complete, participatory, and unforgettable experience.

Our shows offer lots of musical treats! We typically start a performance by toning with the audience, collectively singing one note that produces harmonies, overtones and other splendid musical effects. We expand into vocal improvization that builds off this group energy. We then perform contemporary, original music by our ensemble members, interpreting the songs in fresh, new ways. We finish the show by leading another short, group toning. Through advertising and publicity, we encourage our audience to bring their instruments and voices for an after-show jam session!

Ohana is available to play for many types of gatherings, like shows, concerts, special events, private parties, and soirees.
